Police crack Ayesha murder case

Unofficial news reports are coming in that the Vijayawada City Police were finally able to nab the culprit in the gruesome rape and murder of Ayesha Meera, a student of pharmacy who was murdered in her hostel room in December 2007. The case became a challenge for the police. The then Commisoner of Police for Vijayawada City, C V Anand was transferred in view of the inability to crack the case. The State Government decided to transfer the case to the Central Buereau of Investigation which rejected to take it up. The case was later transferred to the CID department of Vijayawada City Police. The incident took political colors as the murdered girl's parents accused Laddu, son of a politician from the city. The Investigation received severe criticism as the police started arresting young people in the age group of 16 to 30 in the regions of Ibrahimpatnam, on the outskirts of the city as part of the investigation. The police identify the person as Pidatala Satyam Babu, aged 20 based on the patterns of crimes happening in the region for the past one year. Satyam babu confessed to have attacked 14 girls and women including Ayesha. Later, the police confirmed the same by sending his DNA samples for analysis. His hand writing also matches with the words “Prematho Chirutha” he wrote on the body after murdering her. Citizens could not believe that the police have really cracked the case seeing the way the case handled for the past eight months. The citizens of Nandigama sub division conducted a Rastaroko alleging that the police have falsely implicated satyam babu in the case.

Vijayawada for the past few years is witness to these kind of murders. Lakshmi, a student of MCA was killed few years back by her classmate. More than 10 intermediate students in the residential colleges in the city committed suicide in the last one year unable to cope with the pressure of the studies.
